My mum was born on the 26th of December 1943 to Ruby and Fred Medler, the second eldest of six children and grew up in Hevingham, Norfolk, England. She had three daughters - Katrina, Paula and Joanne with her first husband before meeting my father who she had two more children with - my sister Natasha and me. She was a wonderful woman, a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and would do anything in her power to help her family in any situation, and stand by them no matter what. She was a very proud woman who never let anyone put us down no matter who they were or how big they were. She was a very strong woman, who had the kind of strength that most people could only imagine having, or wished they could have. I remember one time when I was around 16 years old, I’d had an altercation with another boy and his gorilla of a step father decided to come around after me to give me a hiding. He banged on the door and when she opened it, he began to make threats, but he didn’t realize who he was dealing with - put it this way, he began to regret making those threats by the time my mum’s mouth had come out of overdrive… Of course there were times in her life where she would get sad just like anyone else, but she would never let anything keep her down for long, and tried to live life to the fullest. I’m hoping to show with this walk that I will continue that ambition, live that ethic as she would have wanted me to. My mum, Christine Margaret Medler passed away on the 15th of September 2008. She was 64 years old. |
